I found myself aimlessly walking around TJ Maxx this afternoon perusing the bathroom accessory aisle when the glow of pink and pastels began to overwhelm me from the children's aisle. I decided to walk over and see what kind of cutie patootie things they sold for little boys.
Not so much. There was three times as many options for girls than for boys. For the first half of the boys infant rack they basically had simple onesies, meanwhile on the opposite side for the girls were tons of cute outfits and dresses. This was something I have taken for granted! Although- I never really made it to the checkout counter with any of those adorable pink dresses being that Emma (and our bank account) have been so lucky to have all of her cousin Ava's hand me downs, and lots of gifts from friends and family. Who can resist a cute little pink outfit!
However, today, I found an outfit for our little boy that I really couldn't resist!! I pictured his tiny little self all snuggled up against me with his little baby legs curled in to my chest, wearing this adorable little romper. And it just snowballed from there.... one after another they jumped out at me screaming "pick me! pick me!".... so I settled on 2 new outfits for now.
Felix & I went shopping last week to take advantage of some mega deals from Macys. After that trip, Felix has been banned from choosing clothes for our children. But we did score a great deal on a warm and cozy bunting suit. Can you guess which one Felix picked? Here is a hint...
Lately, her favorite game is to go in my jewelry bag and take out all her 'bracelets'. She brings them everywhere, putting them in all her toys, and sometimes....letting Matti eat them.
"so many!"
"diamonds". Yes, she knows diamonds. (these, are obviously, not real!).
With all this glitz & glamour going on around our house, I figured I deserved a little treat. Our dining room is starting to look like a real room!
Profile shot of the head and part of the chest. His head is to the right and he is looking up.
The nurse said this was the shot that told her he was a boy. No matter how long I stare at this picture, I cannot seem to identify which parts are which. FELIX on the other hand, seems to think the entire picture is of his male parts....
I thoroughly enjoyed watching Emma eat dinner this evening. She was just such a sweet little girl, trying her hardest to have a conversation with me, smiling, and really concentrating on getting all the applesauce out of the bowl and onto her spoon all by herself.
In this picture I think she looks like Felix. - such concentration!
Last week was pretty rough for Emma when I tried to leave her at the gym daycare. This week, however, was a COMPLETELY different story!
Saturday when we pulled up to the gym in the car, she said "no, no" in the parking lot but was just fine once she got to the room with Gladys the daycare lady, her milk cup, and her binky.
Sunday she was a little hesitant in the car, but once we got upstairs she ran to the daycare door, knocked on the childproof door and said "mommy, open!", ran to Gladys and said "bye bye mommy".
Today- as soon as I pulled into our parking spot, while STILL in the car she said "bye bye mommy"! She climbed all the steps up to the gym, ran to Gladys- didn't even look back, jumped in her arms and just snuggled with her in the rocking chair as I signed her in and left. Seriously, didn't even look at me to say bye.
I am happy she likes it there so much- it was very stressful leaving a screaming child just to go do something alone for myself. Now, we can both enjoy our mornings and that makes me feel much more relaxed starting off each day! Happy as can be!
Now that Emma is old enough to realize that there is snow on the ground, she doesn't seem to be such a fan. She won't walk down the steps on the snow, and if there is snow on her boots when she gets in the car she can't rest until I clean them. So, I thought it would be a good idea to bring her out to play in the snow after her nap and show her how to have fun with it. Even Matti came out to join us, running wild on his extra long leash! We threw a couple snowballs, but it wasn't really sticking enough to make a snowman. And I figured her first day out wasn't a good one to make her lie in the snow to make a snow angel, so we pretty much tried to practice the basics, like walking in the snow and feeling how cold it is!
"catch the snow on your tongue!" . "I thought you said playing in the snow was fun........" "......I'm outta here!"
The camera dried, and unfortunately, is working again. I hate this camera- but thankful that I was able to capture these sweet moments yesterday afternoon!
Felix was "playing" with Emma while I was hard at working trying to hang a broom rack without falling down the steps into our scary basement...... ....meanwhile, it appears our definitions of "playing" are QUITE different! . no wonder he thinks I have it easy!
Felix had to leave at 6:30am, so at 8am I went upstairs to get Emma from her crib. She had a dried bloody nose which I assumed was from the dry air, so I cleaned it up and quickly got her dressed and rushed out of the house to make it to the gym in time for my morning class... ......which, by the way, has been TORTURE! After 3 months of doing nothing due to morning sickness, my body is not thrilled to be going back to my normal routine. And Emma is having a little bit of trouble saying goodbye to me when I leave her in the gym nursery.
Luckily, Emma had her 18mo (i know, we are late) check-up so I had to leave class halfway through, freshen up in the locker room and dart to the doctors office. Emma did great! She was excited to see what the doctor was going to find in her ears (dad had been pulling all sorts of toys out of her ears while we were in FL). She played and giggled with the doc, the doc confirmed my assumption about her bloody nose this morning, and when it came time for her shot, she cried for about 3 seconds and then was very eager to get dressed and run around the waiting room. Good job Emma!
After that, we headed to Target to check out a bookshelf I wanted, but realized I cannot fit it in my car alone, so we decided to have hot dogs there for lunch instead and leave the bookshelf for Felix to pick up later. I felt bad for not having a healthy lunch- figured we could make up for it at dinner.
We came home, and as I was putting her in the crib to nap... I found this: Dried blood all over her sheets! I guess it was covered up by all her teddy bears in the morning so I didn't see it. Even on her blankies! I didn't have time to wash her sheets and I couldn't find the spare, so she napped in there again. It was dry...I figured it was ok.
During her nap, I exhausted myself as I am STILL trying to get this house organized after all the renovations and our 2 month trip. After her nap we left to go meet some friends at Gymboree for open play, once we got there I realized my friends couldn't make it- but Emma & I still made the best of it. (We did have to pay $10 to get in- which I wouldnt normally do to go somewhere alone, but hey, we had fun!).
Now, leaving Gymboree at 5:30pm- I am exhausted, but had to run to the grocery store to get a few things incase we got snowed in the next day. We stopped at McDonalds to get her dinner on the way to the store. So much for my healthy plans. At this point, I felt all out guilty feeding her crap all day.
At the store, she did, what I call, "very bad listening"! Refusing to sit in the front of the cart she wanted to sit in the back, like her cousin Ava does at Costco. Fine with me- until she starts standing, leaning over the edge and saying "boo boos" (since I told her if she didn't sit down she would get boo boos). THEN came her mocking me as I would put items in the cart and say "no touching"....of course, she puts her hand on them, looks at me and says 'no touching'. UGHHHH. After which, she found it fun to step on the boxes of perogies. I told her I was going to count to 3 and she needs to sit on her tushie... "one.... two...." and with great joy and excitement, she yells "THREE!!!!" and puts her arms up to say horray! But - still wouldn't sit down. I was finally successful sticking her in the front seat of the cart, only to realize the belt was broken and she kept standing up IN THERE!!!! I ended up having to hold her as I pushed the cart through the store. I kept my patience though. Meanwhile, all I could think about was - 'how the heck am I going to do this with 2 kids???'!
Once we got home, I used the bathroom upstairs and realized the toilet wouldn't stop running after I flushed it. Oh well- I would deal with it after I put her to bed. So I quickly switched out her sheets, cleaned up her room, and as I was about to lie her on the changing table to put on her PJ's.... a stink bug comes crawling out from the window and is walking over the mobile above her.
At this point, I had had ENOUGH! I can't stand bugs, and these are especially gross. So I unfortunately let out a curse word, which thankfully, she did NOT repeat! I pulled her out of her room, and stood there watching the bug. Emma quietly sat down near my feet clutching her Elmo doll as we stood there waiting for Felix to get home.
Finally I went downstairs and called Felix to make sure he was coming home within a few minutes. Then, I cried from pure exhaustion (and pregnancy hormones I'm sure). My big man came to the rescue, and fixed the toilet and killed the bug as soon as he got home. We put Emma to bed and came downstairs to start dinner.
I scrubbed the sheets to treat the blood stains before washing them, Felix started the wash- not realizing that I had stuck my camera in the laundry basket when we carried it downstairs... and sure enough, into the wash it went!
So- no more camera for us!
And that, my friends, is the story of my awesome day.
Baby #2 is well on HIS way!!!!!!!! Due June 29th! I am 20 weeks along, and the baby is doing great! . This pregnancy started off even worse than with Emma, I was either nauseous or vomiting all the time and just plain miserable! Other fun pregnancy symptoms started even earlier- I have some indigestion, and am showing much sooner than I did with Emma. But the good news is, after a very relaxing vacation in FL, I am over the morning sickness, and have been back to the gym for 2 days already!
Emma will point to my belly and say "baby brother", but I'm pretty sure she has no idea what it means. She has certainly helped this pregnancy go by faster, and I feel like our son will be here before we know it! (Still not used to the idea of saying "our son"!!!!). Wow!
