Pure Misery

Emma has Roseola. A virus I didn't think was really that big of a deal when hearing of it in the past, but this has really put her through the ringer!

It started on Thursday night with a slight fever, followed by Friday with a super high one, and fevers all throughout the day Saturday & Sunday. Felix was out of town Friday morning through Sunday night, so Emma & I had lots of quality time together on the couch.

Then came Monday morning.
The worst was about to begin. Seriously. With barely any fever, I thought she had kicked whatever virus she may have had and was acting more herself. I really jumped the gun on that one!
She was miserable, out of control tantrums like we have never seen before, and .... growing a bigger and bigger red rash. If we asked her a question and her answer was no- she threw a tantrum just to tell us no. If she asked us for milk and we gave it to her....she would throw the cup back at us without even taking a sip, and then reach for it... then throw it back. If I looked at her when she didn't want me to, she started screaming and throwing her hands up to try and turn my face away from her direction. I did not know WHAT to do to make her happy.
We decided to take her to the doctor that afternoon, where they diagnosed her with Roseola. Not a big deal.... the fever was gone, the rash was here, and the doc said we should just have a few more days of the rash until she was ready to play.

Then- this morning once I got her from the crib, she just wanted to snuggle. She would be perfectly content lying on my chest, and then out of nowhere start screaming crying and thrashing her body everywhere, crying "mommy, mommy", and reaching for me- but not wanting me to hold her. After about 10 minutes of this, I almost started crying myself!

She finally calmed down when I got her to drink milk from an "adult" cup and gave her some teddy grahams for breakfast. Don't even tell me not to give her cookies for breakfast, I don't want to hear it! We followed up with some more tantrums, and finally I got her to take a bath- after which, she passed out on my shoulder downstairs on the couch.

The rash is now growing all over her body, and she is itching it everywhere. The internet says it is not supposed to be itchy. Clearly, it is. I wish there was something we could do because it is really hard to see her so miserable- and the worst is when she is just thrashing on the couch in pain. Awful. I am hoping this goes away soon!
